From January 15 to 24, 2025, the first plenary meeting of the 2025-2028 study cycle of the International Telecommunication Union Study Group 20 (ITU-T SG20) was successfully held in Geneva, Switzerland, aiming to jointly promote standardization work in the fields of the Internet of Things, digital twins, smart cities and communities. More than 100 representatives from China, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Tanzania, Cameroon and other countries attended the meeting.
China Unicom Research Institute achieved breakthrough results in this conference, took the lead in promoting the establishment of a decentralized/distributed Internet of Things research group, and obtained 6 management seats. Among them, Jia Xiongwei from the Intelligent Technology Research Team served as the vice chairman of the WP3 (Data, Security and Decentralization) Working Group, Jia Xiongwei and Jia Xueqin from the Next Generation Internet Research Department served as the rapporteurs of the research group Q6 (Security, Identification and Trustworthiness) and Q9 (Decentralized/Distributed Internet of Things), respectively, and Wang Tianyi from the Network Intelligent Operation Research Center, Shi Ke from the Next Generation Internet Research Department, and Sheng Mingzhe from the Fusion Innovation Team served as deputy rapporteurs of the research group, respectively, achieving a new breakthrough in the management seat of the vice chairman of the ITU-T working group of China Unicom Research Institute. At this conference, 8 leading international standards were initiated and 4 were completed, covering technologies in network intelligent operation, data elements, artificial intelligence, blockchain, metaverse, security, etc.
In combination with the "two chains and two places", China Unicom Research Institute has continuously transformed the research and development results in the fields of Internet of Things, digital twins, smart cities and communities into ITU-T SG20 international standards. The increase in the number and quality of ITU-T SG20 management seats, as well as the establishment and completion of important basic standards for the "two chains and two places", have further enhanced China Unicom's influence and voice in ITU-T. In the future, China Unicom Research Institute will continue to deepen relevant research and technical exploration, actively implement the mission of "digital information operation service national team, digital technology integration innovation vanguard", and contribute to the development of the country and the company.
