Fiber Distribution Box is a network device used to manage and organize fiber optic cables and provide access to individual fibers for cross-connection. It is also known as a fiber distribution tray. It can easily terminate fiber optic cables and helps make the connection of different devices simple and organized. A patch panel is essentially an array of ports on a panel. Each port is connected with a patch cord that connects to another port of an optical device located elsewhere in the building. It is an integral component in building and maintaining a fiber optic communication network. Fiber optic patch panels are widely used in FTTH, FTTB, FTTC, telecommunication networks, CATV or LAN.

Fiber optic patch panels are usually in the form of metal enclosures. They act as a distribution center for optical cables. Bulk fiber optic cables enter the patch panel and then each fiber bundle is divided into individual bundles. Finally, these lines are connected to other electronic devices. In addition, they are also designed to accommodate various components, including adapter panels, connector adapters, and fiber splice trays. Adapter panels provide external and internal ports of the enclosure. The internal ports of the panel are fixed. In contrast, the external ports are reserved for fiber patch cords. Fiber splice trays provide splicing of optical fibers and fiber pigtails. Fiber optic pigtails can be plugged into fixed internal ports on the adapter panel.
