In fiber optic communication systems, the task of an optical receiver is to recover the information carried by the optical carrier after fiber optic transmission with minimal additional noise and distortion. Therefore, the output characteristics of the optical receiver comprehensively reflect the performance of the entire fiber optic communication system.
After transmission, the optical signal emitted by the optical transmitter not only attenuates in amplitude, but also widens the pulse waveform. The function of the optical receiver is to detect the weak optical signal that has been transmitted, and amplify, shape, and regenerate it into the original transmission signal.
