Dust or uncleanness on the optical imaging channel of the fiber fusion splicer will cause the fiber fusion splicer to misjudge the position of the fiber core, thereby reducing the quality of the splice. Therefore, the daily maintenance of the fiber fusion splicer should be focused on cleaning the splicer. The cleaning of the fiber fusion splicer includes V-groove cleaning, lens cleaning, and reflector cleaning.
Cleaning of V-groove of fiber fusion splicer
① Wipe the V-groove with alcohol cotton soaked in alcohol;
② There will be tiny dust at the bottom of the V-groove during outdoor splicing. Use a cleaned and cut fiber end to wipe the bottom of the V-groove.
Cleaning the lens of the optical fiber splicer
①Remove the electrode cover;
②Loosen the two screws that fasten the electrode, withdraw the anode electrode backwards, and expose the lens;
③First use the air bag to blow away the visible large stains or dirt;
④Use a cotton swab with alcohol on one end to wipe the lens, and use the dry end of the cotton swab to wipe off the alcohol residue;
⑤Push the anode electrode back to its original position along the V-shaped groove of the electrode base, push the electrode back seat tightly, and gently tighten the two screws;
⑥Install the electrode cover;
⑦After installing the electrode rod, be sure to check it, turn on the power after cleaning, and press the "ARC" key several times to check the arc.
Cleaning the reflector of the optical fiber splicer
The optical fiber splicer is generally equipped with a lifting/lowering reflector and a windshield reflector.
①Use the air bag to blow away the visible large stains or dirt;
②Use a cotton swab with alcohol on one end to wipe the reflector, and use the dry end of the cotton swab to wipe off the residual alcohol.
Before cleaning the above parts of the fiber fusion splicer, you must first turn on the power, open the windshield, put the lifting/lowering reflector in the raised position, then turn off the power, and then clean. The purity of the alcohol used should be above 95%, and other chemical solvents should not be used.
In addition, the fiber clamp, fiber outer coating pressure plate, cutting knife, fiber stripping pliers and other parts of the fiber fusion splicer should be cleaned. After all cleaning work is completed, the fiber fusion splicer can be checked for dust. The steps are: enter the "Dust Check" in the maintenance menu, the fiber fusion splicer automatically starts the dust check process, and uses the image processing system to check and measure dust and dirt.
During the inspection, a "wait" message appears on the screen. If the size and amount of dust are acceptable, it will display "normal"; if it is unacceptable, it will display "abnormal". Press the "MUNU" key to exit the dust check function.
Replacement of the electrode of the fiber fusion splicer
Another task of daily maintenance is the replacement of vulnerable parts. The fiber fusion splicer is equipped with a pair of electrodes and a lifting/lowering reflector.
Every time the fiber fusion splicer discharges, the electrode will be slightly worn out and gradually become spherical, which will cause high splicing loss, abnormal discharge or fiber separation. After the fiber fusion splicer discharges more than 2,000 times, it will display a request to replace the electrode every time it is turned on. In actual use, after 10,000 discharges, the splicing loss will be significantly reduced.
Steps for replacing electrodes:
①Open the electrode cover;
②Loosen the 4 screws of the front and rear electrode fixing fixtures and remove the old electrode;
③Insert the new electrode into the appropriate position of the V-shaped groove of the electrode base, push the electrode back seat tightly, and gently tighten the 4 screws;
④Install the electrode cover;
⑤Reset the discharge counter: Enter the "Reset discharge count" in the maintenance menu, clear the discharge count, and then enter the operation record menu to view, where the total number of discharges indicates the total number of discharges of this device, and this value cannot be reset;
⑥Adjust the discharge position: The electrode is a very precise part, but its discharge ZX position often changes due to electrode replacement. Adjustment steps: Enter the "Discharge Position" in the maintenance menu; Start the automatic inspection process, the automatic measurement of the discharge position of the optical fiber fusion splicer includes the discharge process (the fusion splicer generates discharge, and uses the image processing system to measure the discharge ZX position) and display results (display the current electrode rod position below the previous electrode rod position); press the "ENT" key to store the new position in the internal memory.
⑦ Adjust the discharge intensity: If you do not use the "automatic" method to weld, you must perform several splices and adjust the discharge intensity according to the results.
Replacement of the lifting/lowering reflector of the fiber optic welding machine
When the lifting/lowering reflector has indelible stains, cracks, and unevenness, it must be replaced. Replacement steps:
① Remove the electrode rod according to the steps for replacing the electrode;
② Use a hexagonal wrench to loosen the fixing screws of the lifting/lowering mirror, remove the screws and the old reflector;
③ Place the new lifting/lowering mirror on the lens base, push the reflector inward and tighten the screws;
④ Adjust the discharge position and discharge intensity.
